How this fight happens. Fought as part of the Dark Crusader questline — beating him is what unlocks the class. He gets his own arena and his own boss bar, and he is a hard late-game fight rather than a scuffle with an NPC.
Lore
Paladins are a key element of the Dark Crusaders' military might, being both skilled fighters and horse riders, with many opposing armies being thrown into disarray at the outset of a battle by the charge of a force of Paladins on their fearsome warhorses.
The game reveals this in play at high Radiance.

Stigma visions
Stigma — Prayer
IsaacOrius, may your grace sustain me in these most desperate of days
and in the darkness through which I fight,
for it seems to encroach ever closer and I...
I fear the weight of this profane work will crush me, or worse. As ever
I turn to you in my moment of doubt, and will endeavour to remember that
this role which perturbs me so is merely a necessity in the performance of your will.
And in that, I vow to be resolute.
Please continue to hold my brother Samuel in your Radiant embrace forevermore.
In light we walk.
Stigma — Dark Talk
IsaacSullying my soul with such a heretical burden, I cannot help but feel like this path
only leads me - leads all of us - further from Orius' light, not closer to it.
Exacter, there must be some other way.
DunmireSo you deem my guidance injudicious?
IsaacNo, I -
DunmireAnd your soul of greater significance than the world entire
and all other souls upon it?
IsaacNo.
DunmireFor one whose family name bears the shame it does, Isaac, you exhibit an unfortunate
tendency towards recalcitrance. I would be discontented if the hubris to which your brother succumbed
was confirmed a familial sin. Look to the damnatory skin you carry, Paladin.
For that is your true burden, not the Umbral Lamp.
Stigma — Cross

Lords of the Fallen ships no bestiary, so there is no entry to quote. What it has instead is the stigma visions — authored scenes you find in the world — and this is one of them, reproduced as the game writes it. Datamined
Damage absorption
| Damage type | Absorbs | Defence | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physical | 38.3% | 375 | |
| Fire | 33.6% | 305 | |
| Holy | 48.1% | 560 | Toughest |
| Wither | 38.3% | 375 | |
| Magic | 24.9% | 200 | Weakest |
Magic is spell damage. No weapon deals it — every spell does, whichever school it belongs to — so that row is how well casting works against this enemy, and the other four are what your weapon does.
Lowest absorption is where your damage goes furthest — magic here. The Defence column is the game's own stored value, on the same scale as an armour piece's absorption. The percentage is derived from it as K/(K+defence) with K = 604, a constant solved from three mitigations measured in game rather than read out of a table — so treat it as accurate to a few tenths, not exact.
How to hurt it
- If you swing
- Fire 33.6% absorbed
- If you cast
- Magic 24.9% absorbed
- Resists
- Holy 48.1% absorbed
Both lines matter whichever way you play. The game gives you two hands for melee and a third slot for casting or a throwable, so most fights use both — and a cast has a wind-up that a crowd at close range will not wait through. Take the number for whatever is in your hand at the time.
Two different things in the swing lane, read together. Slash, blunt and pierce are tags — every weapon deals one of them, and they are not in the table above. The named school is from that table, and it is the lowest of the four a weapon can actually deal: magic is left out of it because no weapon deals magic.
No physical weakness or resistance is tagged on this one either — it takes slash, blunt and pierce the same way, so the school above is the whole answer.
What does not work
No mechanic is ruled out — it can be staggered, backstabbed and Soulflayed.
Least effective: holy 48.1% absorbed
Not a wall — it can be killed with any of these. At 48.1% absorbed you are giving up 23 percentage points against magic, which is the difference between a fight and a long fight.

Status resistance
| Status | Resistance | |
|---|---|---|
| Bleed | 1000 | |
| Poison | 825 | |
| Frostbite | 825 | |
| Smite | 1225 | |
| Burn | 750 | Procs soonest |
| Ignite | 913 | |
| Wither | 200 | Applies on hit |
These are buildup thresholds, not percentages, so they read the opposite way to absorption — a lower number procs sooner. They are comparable between enemies but not against any other figure on the site. The proc itself is a damage event that scales off your own attributes, which is why two players see different numbers from the same status.
Wither sits outside that comparison. It applies on the hit rather than building toward a threshold, so its figure is not measuring the same thing as the other six and is left out of "procs soonest" — otherwise it would win on most enemies in the game and the tag would stop telling you anything.

Its loot row carries no faction code at all, which is true of most bosses and of anything the game never sorted into one. Nothing is inferred from a missing one.
