Questline — Guide to the Umbral Realm, then His Final Stand

A lampbearer who walked your road generations ago, and the man who handed the Rune of Adyr to the Judge Cleric. Mentor, then broken man, then enemy.

Missing any single conversation or Stigma in the first six steps means he will not help at the Rapturous Huntress fight and his armour set will not drop. This is the most commonly lost content in the game.

Run-ending mistakes

  • Skip one conversation or Stigma and you lose his armour set. There is no recovery in that playthrough.
  • Do not fight the Rapturous Huntress until you have walked him through all six conversation stages.

Where they start

Abandoned Redcopse, at the village entrance · Nearest vestige: Vestige of Hannelore

Two rules for this one

  • From Lower Calrath onward he only exists in the Umbral realm. Look for him in the living world and you will conclude he is gone.
  • He advances when you rest at a vestige, not when you clear an area.

The route

  1. Abandoned Redcopse, village entrance
He warns against casual lamp use and wonders whether there are others like him. Exhaust every line.
  2. Abandoned Chapel, inside the Redcopse windmill cave
He teaches you to plant Vestige Seeds on Umbral Flowerbeds. You get a Seed and the mechanic.
  3. Lower Calrath, right-hand side of the main street · sources disagree, see below
Umbral only from here on. He blames Adyr's rune and tells you to carry the burden alone.
  4. Upper Calrath, bottom of a staircase past the beacon
Read the nearby Stigma too — it shows him slaughtering civilians during his escape. Stigmas count as content you must exhaust.
  5. Upper Calrath interior, passage with two lit braziers · sources disagree, see below
Appears after the second beacon is cleansed and after you rest. The Stigma shows him giving the Rune of Adyr to the Judge Cleric.
  6. Cliff edge overlooking the valley, in Umbral — after: Rest at the Vestige of Ferrers the Charred
His tone flips: he wants Mournstead burned and intends to take the rune back.
  7. Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters, Rapturous Huntress arena
Interact with the Rune of Adyr display to start the fight. If you exhausted everything above he appears as a summonable ally, then takes the rune and leaves.
  8. Gates of Bramis Castle
Fight him. Armour only drops if he actually showed up at the Huntress fight.
  9. Fief of the Chill Curse, snowy ledge in Umbral · optional
Umbral ending only. From the Vestige of Svornil: ladders down, across the carriage path and wooden bridge, ladder near the barricaded gate, deploy the banner, stairs, cross into Umbral, follow the cliffs. Use the Withered Rune of Adyr on him.

What you get

Worth knowing

  • Costly: For the Withered Rune of Adyr you must take the Rune of Adyr from the Abbey to the non-hostile Remnant in Mother's Lull, before you open the Bramis Castle gates.

Steps and outcomes are confirmed in play — the game files record quest steps but not reliably what triggers them, so this is the one part of the page that is not datamined. Reward names are checked against our own item data at build time. Verified in game

What the game says about The Iron Wayfarer

The Iron Wayfarer's set

When the fate of humanity was placed on Harkyn's shoulders at Keystone Monastery, the convict rose to the occasion, wiping out the Rhogar invaders and preventing the vengeful Adyr's return, only to be rewarded with years of being reviled and hunted by those he had saved.

The game reveals this in play at high Radiance or Inferno.

The Iron Wayfarer's set

Harkyn had lived longer than any man was meant to and in that time committed acts of both great good and appalling evil, and although the latter typically retained greater clarity and significance, time and the fickle nature of memory would bury some of his worst crimes deep within his mind, forgotten.
