Lords of the Fallen

Paladin Isaac

A Paladin of the Dark Crusaders who doubts the work he has been given. Beating him is what unlocks the Dark Crusader class.
Questline NPC Fightable
Paladin Isaac, an NPC in Lords of the Fallen

The game files this one as IsaacMiniBoss — His UI asset resolves to "Paladin's Burden", which is the name of the fight rather than the man. Char_NPC_Isaac in the same table is "Paladin Isaac".

This one can be fought. Their boss encounter has its own page with health, absorption and drops: Paladin Isaac →

Where to find Paladin Isaac

No quest-step spawner places this one, so the levels do not say where they stand. That is usually because they are reached through a scripted event rather than found in the world.

Questline — The Paladin's Request

A Dark Crusader whose brother Samuel was executed for dereliction of duty. You never really talk to him — his entire story is told through Stigmas. Finishing it unlocks the Dark Crusader class.

Run-ending mistakes

  • Kill the Lightreaper without summoning Isaac and the quest fails permanently. This is the harshest fail in the game, because the Lightreaper feels like an optional encounter people kill opportunistically.
  • You cannot summon both Isaac and Kukajin. Pick one and accept the other questline dies.

Where they start

Abandoned Redcopse. From the Holy Bulwark Otto arena, take the left fork at the first split and the right at the next. The Flayed Skin is on a ledge at the end. · Nearest vestige: Vestige of Ranik

Pick up the Flayed Skin, then raise the lamp at that spot. A broken bridge in Umbral confirms the quest is open.

The route

  1. Lower Calrath
From the Vestige of Sebastian, down the stairs, right at the broken bridge, shift into Umbral for a bone bridge. This Stigma gives the Wooden Dark Crusader Cross.
  2. Fief of the Chill Curse, beside the Vestige of Svornil
The Dark Crusader at prayer. Needs the Fief Key from Andreas of Ebb.
    Gated behind andreas of ebb.
  3. Fief of the Chill Curse, after The Hollow Crow
Leave the arena, down the ladder, along the narrow platform, drop again, cross the broken bridge in Umbral and walk uphill. On the right-hand riverbed.
  4. Path of Devotion
Needs the Pilgrim's Perch Key from Stomund. From the Vestige of Dieter follow the muddy path left to a cliff, shift into Umbral and soulflay the Stigma near the moths.
  5. Upper Calrath, alley near the grand stairway · optional
Optional, but part of full completion.
  6. Path of Devotion
Fight the Paladin's Burden. Shift into Umbral, find the bone bridge on the left, soulflay the tumor to extend it into the arena. Drops the Umbral-Tinged Flayed Skin.
  7. The Ranik ledge
Carry the Umbral-Tinged Flayed Skin back. Looting there now gives the full Paladin set.
  8. Lightreaper arena
Summon Paladin Isaac and win with him alive.

What you get

Worth knowing

  • Do all five Stigmas and the Paladin's Burden fight before you go near the Lightreaper's final arena.
  • Do not miss the Umbral Tumor in the Lightreaper arena or the fight will not trigger properly.
  • Two Stigmas are gated behind other NPCs: Andreas of Ebb for the Fief Key, Stomund for the Pilgrim's Perch Key.

Steps and outcomes are confirmed in play — the game files record quest steps but not reliably what triggers them, so this is the one part of the page that is not datamined. Reward names are checked against our own item data at build time. Verified in game

What the game says about Paladin Isaac

Paladin set

Paladins are a key element of the Dark Crusaders' military might, being both skilled fighters and horse riders, with many opposing armies being thrown into disarray at the outset of a battle by the charge of a force of Paladins on their fearsome warhorses.

The game reveals this in play at high Radiance.

Stigma — Prayer

Isaac Orius, may your grace sustain me in these most desperate of days

and in the darkness through which I fight,

for it seems to encroach ever closer and I...

I fear the weight of this profane work will crush me, or worse. As ever

I turn to you in my moment of doubt, and will endeavour to remember that

this role which perturbs me so is merely a necessity in the performance of your will.

And in that, I vow to be resolute.

Please continue to hold my brother Samuel in your Radiant embrace forevermore.

In light we walk.

Stigma — Dark Talk

Isaac Sullying my soul with such a heretical burden, I cannot help but feel like this path

only leads me - leads all of us - further from Orius' light, not closer to it.

Exacter, there must be some other way.

Dunmire So you deem my guidance injudicious?

Isaac No, I -

Dunmire And your soul of greater significance than the world entire

and all other souls upon it?

Isaac No.

Dunmire For one whose family name bears the shame it does, Isaac, you exhibit an unfortunate

tendency towards recalcitrance. I would be discontented if the hubris to which your brother succumbed

was confirmed a familial sin. Look to the damnatory skin you carry, Paladin.

For that is your true burden, not the Umbral Lamp.

Stigma — Cross

Isaac In light we walk.
